How Clindacin Vaginal Cream works

Clindacin Vaginal Cream is a combination of two medicines: Clindamycin and Clotrimazole. Clindamycin is an antibiotic which stops bacterial growth in the vaginal tract by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Clotrimazole is an antifungal which stops the growth of fungi by preventing them from making their protective covering. Together, they treat your vaginal infection effectively.

Quick Tips

Clindacin Vaginal Cream is inserted into the vagina using an applicator, usually at night before going to bed.

Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.

Avoid contact with your eyes. If accidental exposure occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water.

It may cause minor burning, stinging, or irritation when applied. Inform your doctor if this does not go away.

It can damage condoms and diaphragms and make them ineffective at preventing pregnancy. Ask your doctor about other suitable methods of preventing pregnancy.

Inform your doctor if your symptoms do not get improved within 3 days of taking the medicine.

Bacterial Vaginosis Vaginal cream: 1 full applicator inserted (approximately 5 gram) intravaginally at bedtime for 3 days in nonpregnant patients and for 7 days in pregnant patients

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity.Clindamycin cream is also contraindicated in individuals with a history of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, or a history of \"antibiotic-associated\" colitis.

Mode of Action

Clindamycin inhibits protein synthesis by reversibly binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosomal thus blocking the transpeptidation or translocation reactions of susceptible organisms resulting to stunted cell growth.

Precaution

The patient should be instructed not to engage in vaginal intercourse, or use other vaginal products during treatment with this product. This cream contains mineral oil that may weaken latex or rubber products such as condoms or vaginal contraceptive diaphragms. Therefore, use of such products within 72 hours following treatment with Clindacin cream is not recommended. Lactation: Excretion in milk unknown; use with caution

Side Effect

Genital tract: vaginitis, vulvo-vaginal irritation Central nervous system: dizziness, headache, vertigo. Gastro-intestinal: heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain. Dermatological: rash, exanthema. Hypersensitivity: urticaria.

Interaction

May enhance the action of neuromuscular blocking agents (e.g. atracurium). May antagonise the effects of parasympathomimetics. May competitively inhibit the effects of macrolides, ketolides, streptogramins, linezolid and chloramphenicol. Increased coagulation tests (prothrombin time/INR) and/or bleeding w/ vit K antagonists (e.g. warfarin, acenocoumarol, fluindione).
