Interpretation of CMV IgG Test Results

Result	Interpretation	Meaning
Negative (CMV IgG < normal range)	No prior infection	The person has never been exposed to CMV and has no immunity.
Positive (CMV IgG > normal range)	Past exposure or infection	The person has been infected with CMV at some point and has developed immunity.
CMV IgM Positive + CMV IgG Positive	Recent or active infection	A current or very recent CMV infection is likely. Further testing may be required.
CMV IgM Negative + CMV IgG Positive	Past infection, not active	The person was previously infected, but there is no active infection now.
