How to use Lactitab
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Lactitab may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How Lactitab works
Lactitab is a calcium channel blocker. It regulates the blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels and reducing the pressure on them, thereby making it easier for the heart to pump more blood throughout the body. In this way, it normalizes the blood pressure in patients with high blood pressure.
What if you forget to take Lactitab?
If you miss a dose of Lactitab, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
A sudden drop in your blood pressure may occur, especially when you first start taking Lactitab. To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down.
It can cause ankle or foot swelling. To reduce the swelling, raise your legs while you are sitting down. Talk to your doctor if it does not go away.
It may cause dizziness. Do not drive or perform any activity that requires mental focus until you know how Lactitab affects you.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Adult: Initially, 2 mg once daily, may increase after 3-4 wk to 4 mg/day. Max: 6 mg/day.
Hepatic impairment: Severe: Reduce dose.
Contraindication
Within 1 mth of MI, cardiogenic shock, unstable angina, aortic stenosis.
Mode of Action
Lacidipine is a potent dihydropyridine Ca antagonist mainly selective for Ca channels in the vascular smooth muscle. It dilates peripheral arterioles resulting in reduced peripheral vascular resistance and BP.
Precaution
Conduction abnormalities, congenital or acquired QT prolongation, poor cardiac reserve. Hepatic impairment. Pregnancy and lactation.
Additive effect w/ diuretics, ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers. May increase plasma level w/ cimetidine. Metabolism may be affected by CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. itraconazole) and inducers (e.g. rifampicin). May attenuate antihypertensive effect w/ corticoids or tetracosactid
