Introduction
Betameson-CL is a combination medicine. It is used to treat various types of skin infections usually the fungal type of skin infections. It minimizes symptoms of inflammation such as redness, swelling, and itching. It also acts against the infection-causing microorganisms. How to use Betameson-CL
This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.
How Betameson-CL works
Betameson-CL is a combination of two medicines: Betamethasone and Clotrimazole which treat skin infections. Betamethasone is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Clotrimazole is an antifungal which stops the growth of fungi on the skin by preventing them from forming their own protective covering.
Quick Tips
  • You have been prescribed Betameson-CL for the treatment of fungal skin infections.
  • It is for use on skin only. Do not use it in your eyes, mouth, or vagina. Rinse with cold water if you accidentally get it in these areas.
  • Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
  • If you think the area of skin you are treating has become more irritated and infected, you should stop using Betameson-CL and consult your doctor.
  • Do not use this medicine more often or for longer than advised by your doctor. Inform your doctor if the treated skin area does not improve after 2 weeks of treatment.

Indication
Inflammed tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis.
Adult Dose
Adult: Topical: Apply twice daily. Recommended duration: Up to 2 wk (tinea corporis and tinea cruris) and 4 wk (tinea pedis). Max: 45 g/wk.

Mode of Action
Betamethasone dipropionate is a corticosteroid that prevents and reduce inflammation by depressing the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and fibroblasts; reversing capillary permeability and lysosomal stabilisation at the cellular level. Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent that binds to phospholipids in the fungal cell membrane. It causes loss of essential intracellular components by altering cell wall permeability.
Precaution
Systemic absorption of betamethasone may result in suppression of the hypothalmic-pituitary-adrenal axis; prolonged or excessive use may increase systemic absorption of the drug. Monitor for signs of infection. Safety and efficacy have not been established in children <17 yr. Elderly. Pregnancy and lactation. Lactation: Excretion in milk unknown; use with caution
