How to use Brostin DS
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Brostin DS is to be taken with food.
How Brostin DS works
Brostin DS is a mucolytic medication. It thins and loosens mucus (phlegm) in the nose, windpipe and lungs making it easier to cough out.
Quick Tips
- Brostin DS helps in thinning and removal of the mucus (slimy and sticky substance) from the airways, thereby treats various respiratory conditions.
- Measure the syrup with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon.
- Inform your doctor if you have suffered or are currently suffering from any stomach, liver or kidney problem.
- Do not use Brostin DS for more than 14 days, without your doctor’s advice.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
Brief Description
Indication
Productive cough, Acute sore throat, Mucolytic
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Adult Dose
Tablet:
Adults: 8-16 mg 3 times daily.
Syrup:
Adults: The recommended daily dose is 2 to 4 teaspoonful 3 times. Initially 4 teaspoonful 3 times daily and then as required.
Child Dose
Tablet:
Children over 10 years: 8-16 mg 3 times daily.
Children 5-10 years: 4 mg 3 times daily.
Syrup:
Children: Suggested dosage for children under 2 years is 1/4 teaspoonful 3 times daily,
2-5 years 1/2 teaspoonful 3 times daily
5-10 years 1 teaspoonful 3 times daily.
Contraindication
Contraindicated to those who are hypersensitive to Bromhexine Hydrochloride.
Mode of Action
Bromhexine is a mucolytic.
Precaution
History of peptic ulceration; asthmatic patients. Severe hepatic or renal impairment.
Side Effect
GI side effects; headache, dizziness, sweating, skin rashes. Inhalation: Cough or bronchospasm.
