Introduction

Povimed (Vet) kills bacteria, enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, fungi, protozoa, and yeasts but has little effect on spores. Povimed (Vet) requires at least two minutes of contact time to be effective. Iodophors kill via iodination and oxidation when free iodine is released.

Povimed (Vet) acts as an oxidizing agent, disrupting the cell walls and membranes of a wide range of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa.

Brief Description

Indication

Povidone controls viral, bacterial, fungal diseases and certain protozoan in fish, poultry & dairy. Povidone deodorize and purifies pond water. Povidone used as disinfectant & to maintain Bio-security in aquaculture, poultry & dairy.

Administration

Povidone-iodine can be given in a variety of methods in veterinary medicine. The route and mode of administration are determined by the clinical application and desired therapeutic effect.Some common routes of administration for povidone-iodine in veterinary practice:Topical applications,Surgical preparation,disinfection and cleaning.

Dose

Foot and Mouth Disease, Pododeramatitis, Interdigital necrobaciliosis: 8 ml/liter of water for foot bath Disinfection of houses & utensils of animal. Routine disinfection: 3.5 ml/liter of water for fogging. Newcastle disease. Avian influenza: 12.5 ml/liter of water for washing of poultry houses and fogging. Mycoplasma spp: 33.5 ml/liter of water Hatching egg: 1 ml/2 liter of water for immersion or cleanse. Fish & Shrimp culture pond: 1-1.5 liter/acre at 1meter water depth. Mode of Action

Povidone-iodine is a topical antiseptic solution commonly used in veterinary medicine for wound care and disinfection. Iodine, the active ingredient in povidone-iodine, can interact with the cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) component of the butaphosphan and cyanocobalamin combination. Iodine can interfere with the absorption and utilization of cyanocobalamin, potentially reducing its effectiveness.

Contraindication

Povidone Iodine should be used with caution in animals that are hypersensitive to the medication.

Side Effect

Povidone may cause rashes, dryness, and discoloration on skin, hair, and textiles.

Pregnancy & Lactation Category Note

There is no indication that breastfeeding and pregnancy are safe. Use only when it is obviously required.

Interaction

Avoid mixing with other antiseptics/disinfectants. May interact with corticosteroids, thyroid meds, antithyroid drugs. Can delay wound healing, especially with prolonged/high-dose use.
